Getting started

Flow Companion is a Chrome side panel for Flow Builder. It works in sandbox and production orgs and installs nothing in the org. Your Salesforce user needs two permissions: API Enabled, and View Setup and Configuration. Limits lists the orgs it can't read.

Install

Add Flow Companion from the Chrome Web Store. It asks for access to Salesforce and to Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google. It sends the flow you have open, and your questions, only to the AI provider you choose. Privacy and security lists every permission.

Open a flow in Flow Builder, then click the Flow Companion icon in Chrome's toolbar to open the panel. If the icon isn't there, open Chrome's Extensions menu (the puzzle-piece icon) and pin Flow Companion. The panel follows the tab you're on.

The API key

The first time you open the panel, choose Set up your AI and paste an API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google. The extension is free. Your provider bills you for what you use, at its own rates.

A ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini subscription is not an API key. Keys come from the provider's developer console. In Settings, each provider's card has a Get a key link to the right page. On Google's free tier, Google may use your prompts to improve its models. Use a paid project if that matters for your org.

The panel checks the key and saves it in Chrome's extension storage on your computer, where your chats are saved too. On a shared computer, turn off Remember this key on this computer, and the key is forgotten when Chrome closes.

To remove a saved key, use Forget everything on this computer at the bottom of Settings. It removes every key, chat, and setting from this computer. You can't remove one key on its own.

Choosing a model

Click the model's name in the message box to open the model menu. It lists a few recommended models first; the one marked Default is recommended for most flows. Every other model your key can use is under More models.

You can switch models mid-chat. Switching re-sends the whole flow once, and the chat notes the switch.

The demo flow

You can try the four actions without a key or a Salesforce org. On the first screen, See it on a demo flow first opens a sample flow in a new tab. Once you have a key, Try a demo flow at the bottom of Settings opens the same one. The demo plays real answers recorded from a model and sends nothing. To ask your own questions, open a flow in Flow Builder.

Answer settings

In Settings, under Answers, the box How should the assistant respond? takes instructions for every answer, such as I'm new to flow, define any jargon, Use field labels, not API names, or Answer in Portuguese. Detail offers Concise, Balanced, and Thorough. Thorough answers take longer and use more of your provider's credit.
